The final big push of this SASL Season is all that lies ahead before we take a break from it all to prepare for Season 4. As with previous seasons, SASL's April competition is Nationals 2012, which means you don’t get to repeat the jumps and you must compete in Nationals, to be eligible for April's jumps.
2-Way FS
2-way FS was a bumper entry in March with the Robertson Rumble as popular as ever.
If you want to host a SASL weekend at your DZ with some on-site judging, perhaps combining it with a skills camp or some other event, give us a shout – it creates a great vibe at the DZ and brings out that extra competitive energy in the teams.
Watch It!
A little heads up for Nationals for the 2-way FS teams, especially if you aren’t experienced in FS competition: Get an experienced FS competitor to cast an eye over your engineering if you aren’t 100% sure. Clever engineering can give you a really big advantage but make sure your engineering is legal.
It’s possible to get so excited about speeding up a round with cheats and mirrors that you don’t realise that you have "over-engineered" yourself into an omission. Omissions will BURN you.
Red Flag in 2-way FS: block 14 (line-line). Make sure you both turn AWAY from each other.
Having said that, part of the fun of FS is the engineering, so play with your options and use it to your advantage.
4-Way FS Fight to the End
4-way FS has stayed tight this month, ensuring 6 people at the top of the leaderboard on the same score as we go into Nationals.
Any tie is broken through weightings (higher-weighted jumpers rank higher). This keeps Mark Broomhead in the lead by a breath (seriously: 0.002 weighting difference between Mark and Yolandi van den Berge!!! This is positively ridiculous it’s so close!). Check out this month's team leaderboards here, and the individual leaderboard here
So the teams to watch at Nationals are VX and Nashua. Nationals leader board points are doubled compared to other months, but we have such a close competition, the double points has no impact on first place. 4-way open at Nationals 2012 is going to be nail biting, especially since the 2 teams aren’t just placing next to each other, but their averages are so similar.
It’s truly too close to call and will come down to the day, I reckon!
Nationals 2012 – PSC 27 April-1 May
Don’t miss out on Nationals – I know many of you wouldn’t miss it for anything, but for those who have not yet participated, it is really, really fun, you will learn tons and it caters for all experience levels.
All teams at nationals who entered SASL Season 3 will have their jumps submitted automatically and be entered into the April SASL competition so all you need to do is pitch up.
Contact Pretoria Skydiving Club, your SSA committee, PASA office or us if you need any assistance or information on Nationals.
Aerodyne Canopy Draw
The draw for a free Aerodyne sport canopy of your choice will be made at the Nationals prize-giving. All competitors who entered SASL for the first time this season have been entered into the draw. See you there!
There has been some amazing growth in all the teams this season.
We have a truly nail-biting final competition lined up for Nationals and South African competition is strong and growing.
Hopefully we've played some small part in that.
Please keep skydiving competition strong – enter SASL, enter Nationals, support the sport and support the generous sponsors who make it all possible!
Train hard and see you at Nationals.
Game ON!
